Tinny Roy participated in a NFTE program sponsored by I CREATE at the Goenka College in India. Her business plan for Greenware Recyclables combines the socioeconomic impact of employing unskilled laborers with the environmental impact of recycling.

Tinny’s plan proposes converting waste paper from printing presses, office stationery, newspapers and magazines into paper bags, cardboard boxes, wrappers and containers, using low-cost labor and semi-automatic machines. “There would be widespread demand in the retail trade for a low-cost, eco-friendly product,” she says.

Her target customers are companies, shops, street hawkers, fruit and vegetable sellers, grocers and individual consumers. Tinny says that poly bags are being banned in many places because they are polluting. She wants to propose a more wholesome substitute.
