BizCamp: Where Fun Pays

Seventy-four students from across the country came together at the Next Generation Venture Fund, an intensive BizCamp held at Duke University in Durham, NC.  NFTE is proud to contribute its curriculum to this year’s program, held from June 19th to the 26th, where students worked together in business plan groups to learn the basics of starting and operating a small business.  On the last day of the camp, they all presented their business ideas before a panel of judges, consisting of local business owners, professionals and MBA students and alumni, in competition for one of the three cash prizes of $1,000 per group.

The top three winning business ideas were:

  • KIACK: affordable backpacks with heating and cooling straps
  • M-Park: Recycled cork and plastic shoes
  • Set The Bar: Specialty Chocolates

At BizCamp, students were happy to learn and make friends. Here’s what some of this year’s aspiring entrepreneurs had to say about their experience!

“It exceeded my expectations and I value the experience and knowledge I’ve gained”

“I met a lot of good friends and learned A LOT!”

“It was awesome, and you should go!”

“I would tell them that any opportunity you get is a key to your future if you take advantage of it and appreciate it”

“Great group of people and teachers and a great learning experience”

“It is a fun, entrepreneurial class that gives an enjoyable experience in learning business.”

“That I had an awesome time and it gave me a great opportunity to learn and meet friends.”

“It’s a good overall experience but it was very challenging”

“It was definitely a learning experience and shouldn’t be taken for granted”

“It’s a great experience whether you pursue business or not”

Congratulations to this the Next Generation Venture Fund winners and to all who participated this year!  We at NFTE are very proud of you!
