Building Your Network

One of the key things to being a successful entrepreneur is making and maintaining strong business relationships.  By building yourself a solid network of business contacts it will allow you to develop your business and increase your potential for overall success. Here are a few tips from on how to build these relationships to keep your company growing.

  • Quality, not quantity – To help build your network it’s important that you get yourself out there and meet new people. Try to attend a couple networking events a month so that you can meet some new contacts and tell them about you business. While you’re networking though, don’t get hung up on the number of people you talk to but instead focus on the quality of the conversation you have with them. At the end of the day it’ll be the people you have meaningful conversations with that you’ll want to call the next day.
  • Following up – Once you’ve met your new contact you need to remember to keep in touch with them. Whether you’re emailing or calling them, keep the lines of communication open. You want to keep that momentum going from when you first met them so that it turns into a permanent business relationship.
  • Keeping things organized – When you attend networking events try to write down a few notes on the people you’ve talked to. It’s important that when you’re following up with them in the next couple day that you remember what you talked about with them and how you plan to build your relationship with them.
