Entrepreneur and Shark Daymond John was back in his old neighborhood of Queens, NY, yesterday and made a surprise visit to a NFTE classroom at Thomas Edison Career and Technical High School in Jamaica Hills. John engaged the class of Entrepreneurship 1 (E1) students in a lively discussion about life as an entrepreneur, presented an exciting gift of new classroom computers to school principal Moses Ojeda, and gifted the students and teachers with personally signed books as well as subscriptions to his new online resource for entrepreneurs. In giving these NFTE students free access to the Daymond on Demand entrepreneurship program he’s provided a great supplemental resource for these young people as they start their own entrepreneurial journey.
After the initial excitement of the surprise reveal settled down, Daymond generously gave of his time to answer questions from students, sharing personal stories, wisdom and encouragement. He reminded them just what a determined young entrepreneur from Queens could accomplish. This was a day NFTE NY Metro students from Thomas Edison Career and Technical High School will remember and will inspire them.
Everyone knows Daymond as one of the Sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank, but what many don’t know is how much Daymond does to give back to the community. For several years now he’s served on NFTE’s Board of Overseers and worked behind the scenes to help NFTE expand entrepreneurship education across the country. In 2011 he appeared on stage as a final round judge at NFTE’s National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge and mentored that year’s winner. Earlier this year Daymond was a virtual host for 11 of NFTE’s Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge finals. His video greeting revved up the crowds at these Shark Tank-style competitions and all the finalists received signed copies of his most recent book, Rise and Grind.
